Soo, here we are, an exciting venture and change that has been in the pipeline for many months has finally been shared with the world!
Welcome to Fuel Power!
You will notice that some things have changed around here, the name of the channel and its accompanying social media for one thing. This blog and website is also new and there will also be some additional members of the team that you might see cropping up in videos and across socials too (me, I am one of those people... hi, I am Genevieve, nice to meet you, you can learn a bit more about me here) but one thing is for sure, the content and the high quality production of our #carbasedcontent isn't changing, and if it does, hopefully it is only going to get better as we head into 2022 and beyond! Wulls Wheels is also not actually going anywhere, its just going to be a part of a bigger adventure.
We hope you will want to join us on this journey and look forward to the events and everything else we have planned for this coming year, please share with your friends, fellow car and automotive fans and we will see you all very soon for lots more #carbasedcontent!
For now, farewell!
Team Fuel Power
But for now, for our memories (but feel free to enjoy it too, if you wish!) I have written a little journey of how we got to this point...
Since summer of 2021 Jake and I have been throwing ideas around of what changes we can make to grow the channel into something that could be developed into what could, may be (if we work hard and are very lucky!) one day, be more than a hobby!
One thing you will find if you go to lots of shows or events across the country, you spend an awful lot of time in the car and when you when you are already mulling over some ideas, this becomes prime time to talk them through. A yet to be named version of Fuel Power was first mentioned on one of those many journeys in August 2021. We discussed events and shows, potential projects and things we would like to do in the future on our little corner of the internet. By our trip across to the Isle of Wight in September, we had what has become affectionately known as 'the big dump'. Despite its rather disgusting name, this is basically just a huge mind map of all the things we want to achieve in the coming few years, could also be compared, in business terms, to a five year plan. This was an incredibly exciting evening and a memory that the sentimental person in me will cherish forever!
After all of these things had been discussed, we pondered over whether or not to change the name of the channel to something more catchy, as this is something that we noticed at shows throughout the year, that people were apprehensive or unsure of the pronunciation of Wulls Wheels (Jake was also called pretty much anything but his name when approached by subscribers, which was sometimes quite funny!) We deliberated over this decision for quite a while as we didn't want to lose the amazing, ever-growing subscriber base that Jake has established during his 18 months as Wulls Wheels but, eventually came to the conclusion that changing the name, would, in the long run be the best thing to do.
'Fuel Power' was far from the first name we thought of but when it came about, it was one of those 'oooo' moments that I can only imagine to be compared to choosing the name of your child! This was going to be a big leap for the both of us and we needed to make sure it was right. This adventure is going to change quite a few things in our lives and has lead to some BIG decisions... (that is a story for another day) but it is a chance for the both of us to make something of our hobbies and passions so was one that we couldn't pass up. So, here ensued HOURS of deliberation over potential names until finally, it was decided. We played around with the name in context for videos, in pretend intros and outros and soon enough it also became just a general part of our everyday conversation. Very quickly, Fuel Power just felt, right!
I can't quite remember exactly when it was that we started discussing Fuel Power with people outside of our families, but when we did, Carlos was one of the first people Jake mentioned it to, with views to restarting their Podcast as part of the 'relaunch' this year. Carlos has has some amazing ideas for the channel so far and will be taking a bit more of a two-wheeled approach to proceedings and I, for one am very interested to see what sorts of things are out there for bikes, to learn some more and also to bring hopefully a whole new range of people to the Fuel Power family.
It was then Jake's job (purely because he is the one with the skill and the software) to get designing! A simple yet effective logo, which you will now see all over the socials, the website and on our hoodies in the announcement video and here, on this blogpost! Again, much like everything else on this journey so far, we did a lot of thinking and throwing ideas around before we settled on the final design. And I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of Jake for designing these, he is an incredibly clever guy and when our hoodies arrived in the post at the beginning of December, the excitement was real! We had huge smiles and we were just filled with pride, this was the first real-life, tangible step towards Fuel Power happening!
We continued into December with a few events and a lot of planning behind the scenes ready for 2022. We found it harder and harder to skirt around Fuel Power as a subject, especially when talking to our online car friends, who we met in the summer, however, we knew we wanted to save it and make sure it was perfectly planned ready for the start of the new year! I will say, the closer it got to the end of the year, the more and more subtle hints crept into the videos and on social media, did you spot any of those?
But, as Christmas grew ever closer and the world around us fell into what can only be described as a state of confusion we started to actually make moves in terms of creating the video content that you will see over the coming weeks. Obviously, we are also still working outside of creating this content as well, so we were squeezing it in, and making use of the fact that, despite leaving my job in school, I still have the holidays! Filming the videos was the first opportunity for all three of us to actually be together, to chat things through and to all have a good laugh as a team, all whilst filming some of January's content! Then we took some time off for Christmas and the days following it to relax and to prepare even further ready for today, 1st January 2022. An incredibly momentous day in our world.
And that really sums up both the journey up until now and also why we are so desperate to make something amazing out of this opportunity, because, lets face it, the world for anyone right now isn't too fun, so we are seeking the joy in the little things and having fun whilst we can!
If you have got this far and aren't part of the team, well done you! You deserve some sort of Fuel Power reward (what, I don't know, I will have to speak to the man in charge....) for reading all of that spiel. Now, lets see what adventures we have, shall we?
Speak soon,
Genevieve
