#WeirdCarTwitter Meet - March 2022

You know when you go to something, to an event or a party and it just exceeds your expectations from the get-go? Well, this #weirdcartwitter gathering at Gilks did just that! A range of cars from all over the UK, driven by a wide variety of awesome people (from your average tweeter to YouTubers and artists to TV personalities) made for a rather wonderful day!

The event was held at Gilks Garage Café (and the car park in the school across the road) in Kineton, Warwickshire. Jake and I have been before and we already knew we were onto a winner, the staff are so welcoming, and the food is amazing, they go out of their way to accommodate you (even when you have an allergy list as long as your arm!) Keith is the man in charge, alongside daughter Katherine and a wealth of other family and friends it feels almost like coming home when you stop at Gilks for lunch! We have had many a conversation with both Keith and Katherine and we are always pleased to see their blur as they run around the café doing a little bit of everything, from making tea and coffee to safely directing cars into the car park! Those two certainly aren’t scared of getting stuck in!

Gilks is 100% worth a visit if you are in the area, we also happened to stumble across the history of the site and the Gilks family whilst on the website looking for the menu, and that in itself is incredible! The site where the café stands has been in the Gilks family since the early 1900s and has been used for a variety of different car-based ventures since that time. It is quite impressive and worth a read!

Now, onto the meet itself, as the name suggests, this meet was organised on twitter (I know, shock!) and like I say, brought together people from across the UK, most of whom had some sort of interaction or at least interest in similar cars! Many of these cars were a little out of the ordinary, weird or unusual, but many also daily drives. The range was vast and I don’t think there were too many duplicates when it came to the cars that did turn up! This made for lots of excited “Ooo’s” and “Aahhhs” from the growing crowds as new people came into the car park. The weather was cold, but it didn’t seem to affect the spirits of the car fans who I think were just happy to meet with friends, old and new, and have great food whilst doing so!

Of course, I gave my camera a workout and took some photos of the many cars at the show (didn't get too many, apologies, I was just too busy catching up with some of the car folk we met last year!) However, Jake and I both went round and did some filming so hopefully, if you’re looking for a particular car, you might it in the video linked below!

Thank you to the organisers of this event and we hope that there will be another one soon! It would be good to get to an event like this as a whole Fuel Power team! Thank you also to the team at Gilks for wonderful hosting and amazing food, as always, and I am sure we will be back very soon! And to you, the reader, for continuing to support this crazy adventure we are on!

Speak soon, Genevieve
